Cheney Family Feud Goes Viral, Dick Issues Comments — Defending His Anti-Gay Daughter

Apparently, a father’s unconditional love for his children does have boundaries. Former Vice President Dick Cheney felt the need to issue a statement after the feud between the Cheney daughters has seemingly torn the family apart.

While Dick and his wife Lynne Cheney, along with their daughter Mary, do support same-sex marriage, GOP U.S. Senatorial hopeful and elder daughter Liz Cheney does not.

On Sunday, in an interview with Fox News over her (embarrassingly flailing) campaign, Liz made clear her opposition to marriage equality.

“I do believe in the traditional definition of marriage,” Liz Cheney said. “Listen, I love Mary very much. I love her family very much. This is just an issue on which we disagree.”

With a election campaign in the balance, Dick just couldn’t walk away.

“This is an issue we have dealt with privately for many years, and we are pained to see it become public,” the Cheneys, Dick and his wife Lynne, just said in a statement. “Since it has, one thing should be clear. Liz has always believed in the traditional definition of marriage. She has also always treated her sister and her sister’s family with love and respect, exactly as she should have done. Compassion is called for, even when there is disagreement about such a fundamental matter and Liz’s many kindnesses shouldn’t be used to distort her position.”
