Catholic League head Bill Donohue says “everyone knows in their right mind the whole purpose of marriage is to have a family. It’s not about making people happy, it’s not about love.” The 65-year old one-man-show told Current TV’s John Fugelsang last night repeatedly said “we don’t know that” gay couples have been “raising very healthy and well-adjusted children.” Donohue added “the data are too recent.”
“As I remember the Ten Commandments said, ‘honor thy mother and thy father,’ it didn’t say ‘honor thy father and thy father.'”
Donohue then repeated that “marriage has nothing to do with love.”
“This idea of two men getting married is the most bizarre idea in human history,†Donohue said.
He then made fun of Fugelsang’s question, “Do you follow Leviticus?”
“I think there’s a little bit of difference between what shirt I buy and two guys having anal sex,” Donohue quipped, and later, said, “no one has the right to get married.”
Later, Donohue falsely states, “less than five percent of these molesting priests were pedophiles. Most of them are homosexual.” And he says that because in the past he’s claimed that the thousands of priests who rape minors weren’t pedophiles because of the age of the minors:
“It’s not a pedophilia… most of the victims were post pubescent…”
Donohue then claims, falsely, defensively that there have been “very few” cases of priests raping children since 1985.
Donohue claimed “we’re talking about” “some priest grabbing some guy’s ass” while wrestling.
Fugelsang challenges Donohue: “It’s rape.”
“Grabbing your ass is rape?,” Donohue asks.
“No, putting your penis in a kid’s mouth is rape,” Fugelsang replies.
