Catholic League On Chick-Fil-A: ‘White’ Gay Marriage Support Has ‘Fascistic Elements’

Catholic League President Bill Donohue today entered the Chick-Fil-A debate by attacking “white and well-educated” supporters of same-sex marriage who are, he says, exhibiting “madness laced with fascistic elements.” Donohue’s racist, class-warfare screed is merely par for the course for the Catholic League’s vitriolic leader, who regularly exhibits extreme views that should make the Pope very angry.

In “Pro-Marriage = Anti-Gay?,” Donohue also attacks the New York Times for an editorial calling Chick-Fil-A President Dan Cathy’s comments “offensive.”

In full, Donohue’s ugly screed:

Dan Cathy, president of Chick-fil-A, has said that we are “inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at him and say, ‘We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage.’” How this unremarkable statement, which never mentions homosexuals, can be labeled anti-gay is astounding. But according to the editorial board of the New York Times, it can be. After quoting Cathy, the Times says, “Antigay remarks like these are offensive.”

It won’t work. According to this logic, almost everyone who ever walked the face of the earth has been an anti-homosexual bigot. Such hyperbole relegates real gay bashing to the trash bin, something to be discarded with alacrity.

Nature, and Nature’s God, has ordained that marriage is the exclusive province of a man and a woman; they are the only two people capable of naturally creating a family. But now, all of a sudden, we are expected to believe that such a pedestrian view is wrongheaded. Worse, there is a growing segment of the population, overwhelmingly white and well-educated, who want to punish those who hold to the traditional view. This is madness laced with fascistic elements.

Apparently, to Bill Donohue, everything in the Bible is 100% accurate and to be followed verbatim, marriage is only intended for procreation of new life (so same-sex couples wanting to raise children — even their own biological children — need not apply), and, what’s “worse” is that “white and well-educated” people are supporting same-sex marriage. Apparently, African-Americans with, for example, a Ph.D. are OK, but whites with only a high school education can stray to the equality side, Hispanics with, perhaps, a GED, can flee, but Latinos with an M.D. are expected to heed Donohue’s words. Asians, American Indians, Indians, and every other race other than white who are not “well-educated,” well, if Bill Donohue loses your support, it’s not so bad. You are now on notice!

Wikipedia defines fascism thusly:

Fascists seek elevation of their nation based on commitment to an organic national community where its individuals are united together as one people in national identity by suprapersonal connections of ancestry and culture through a totalitarian state that seeks the mass mobilization of a nation through discipline, indoctrination, physical training, and eugenics.

Ironic, isn’t it? Because what Donohue just did, by creating a race and class war on same-sex marriage, taken to its logical conclusion, seems to me to meet that definition.

Bill Donohue recently gloated that a convicted pedophile priest enabler was convicted of “only” one felony, attacked NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn’s wedding, saying it’s not a “real” wedding because she is marrying her long-time partner, a woman, told Piers Morgan “I want the law to discriminate against all alternative lifestyles,” ear-mongered with suggestions that polygamy will be Obama’s next marriage “evolution” step, and opined on a self-assighned “thought experiment, concluding that if scientists found “the gay gene,” America’s expectant parents would opt to abort unborn gay babies.

Yes, all this from Bill Donohue, the self-appointed defender of Catholics. Catholics should start defending Catholicism against Bill Donohue.

Hat-tip: Joe.My.God.
