Herman Cain struggled and at times could not answer reporters’ questions about Libya, including whether he supports President Barack Obama’s successful efforts to oust Muammar Gaddafi. Cain paused for several seconds several times, as evidenced in this video recorded by reporters at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
“Businessman Herman Cain stumbled and appeared confused Monday when asked to describe where he disagreed with President Obama on his handing of the Libyan revolt during an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel,” USA Today reported.
“President Obama supported the uprising, correct?” he said at the editorial board meeting. “President Obama called for the removal of (Moammar) Gadhafi — just want to make sure we’re talking about the same thing before I say yes I agree, or no I didn’t agree. I do not agree with the way he handled it for the following reason – nope, that’s a different one.”
The GOP presidential candidate then paused and said: “I got to go back and see, I’ve got all this stuff twirling around in my head.”
Cain then said he would have “done a better job of determining who the opposition” to Gadhafi was and explained after he had all the facts in the situation he would have made a more “deliberate decision” than the president.
Talking Points Memo was less kind.
“The beginning of Cain’s answer then gave the impression that he might have been working from rote memorization — and struggling to remember his lines,” and added, “Herman Cain may have just had his Rick Perry ‘oops’ moment.”
