Brian Brown is helping to raise cash — almost $60,000 so far — for Thaddeus McCotter, the disgraced Republican former U.S. Congressman forced to resign after it was determined that 85% of the signatures on petitions to get him on the ballot were forged or fraudulent. McCotter is no longer seriving in Congress, his seat is vacant, and he is not running for office.
Yet Brian Brown, the president of NOM, the National Organization For Marriage, and also the head (owner?) of Act Right, is helping McCotter raise money.
McCotter appears on the front page of Act Right’s website, and his contribution page is listed by Act Right as “hot.” In fact, mcCotter is so “hot” he is number two on the page — only Mitt Romney is beating him.
Act Right is an online fundraising site and clearing house seemingly modeled on Act Blue, but integrated with Brown’s National Organization For Marriage — so Brown benefits doubly from donors to NOM who contribute via Act Right. Nice work if you can get it, right?

Thaddeus George “Thad” McCotter (born August 22, 1965) is a former U.S. Representative from Michigan’s 11th congressional district, serving from 2003 to 2012. He is a member of the Republican Party. The district includes portions of Detroit’s northwestern suburbs, such as Livonia, Westland and Novi.
From July 2 to September 21, 2011, he was a candidate for the Republican nomination for president in the 2012 election. After quitting his presidential campaign he decided to run again for his seat in Congress, but he failed to qualify for the 2012 Republican primary in his congressional district after massive fraud resulted in the rejection of approximately 85% of his petition signatures as invalid. He briefly mounted a write-in bid in the primary, and on June 2, 2012, announced he would retire from the House at the end of his current term. On July 6, 2012, McCotter resigned from Congress in disgrace. Subsequent investigation showed that he had failed to qualify for office since 2006.

Here’s what Brian Brown’s Act Right says about Thaddeus McCotter:
 First elected in 2002 to Congress, then re-elected in 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2010, McCotter has focused his efforts on preserving and promoting manufacturing and small businesses, because he knows they form the back bone of our community’s economy.
Notice it doesn’t mention that McCotter is no longer a U.S. Congressman, or running for office, and note there is no mention of scandal or fraud whatsoever.
