Steve King just announced he will not run for the U.S. Senate. The Tea Party Republican Congressman from Iowa had been deliberating but made the announcement minutes ago via Twitter:
I will not run for Senate in 2014. A Senate race takes me out of urgent battles in Congress that can’t wait until 2015. Many thanks to all.

Congressman King is known for his less-than-truthful attacks on President Barack Obama, liberals, as well as his rabidly anti-gay positions and comments. King, for example, says gay people should lie about their sexuality unless they want to risk being fired for being gay, and calls same-sex marriage “a radical social idea†and “a purely socialist concept.â€
Just yesterday, King appeared on a conservative talk radio show and claimed, falsely, that President Obama is in Mexico to “undermine national sovereignty and rule of law†by delivering a “greeting card†inviting Mexican citizens to “come back and try again.â€

In February, Rep. King, who claims to be “pro-life,” attacked the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) for their decades-long practice of asking children if there are guns in the house, yet he believes abortion should be outlawed. 55 children die every week from guns.
Last year, during the House’s embarrassing Hurricane Sandy funding debacle, Congressman King said he was afraid hurricane victims would spend money from FEMA on “Gucci bags and massage parlors,†as he claimed Hurricane Katrina victims did.
