Huckabee, a former Republican Governor of Arkansas, minutes earlier performed “Cat Scratch Fever,” with guest Ted Nugent, a vocal, extreme right wing activist and prolific rock performer. Earlier on his show, Huckabee interviewed actor Mario Lopez, best known for his childhood role in “Saved By The Bell,” and later, for his portrayal of gay Olympic swimmer Greg Louganis.

Claiming he hadn’t thought much about it, Huckabee stressed his family pushed him into it. “I’m a believer and follower of Jesus Christ,” Huckabee said his decision was “a spiritual one,” and that “I know I’m going to disappoint people I love,” and “It seriously pains me to disappoint a lot of people I love.”

“All the factors say, ‘Go,’ but my heart says, ‘no,'” Huckabee said.

“These are experiments to see how well children will fare in such same-sex households. It will be years before we know whether or not our little guinea pigs turn out to be good at marriage and parenthood,” Huckabee has said of same-sex marriage.
