Breaking: CPAC Straw Poll Puts Ron Paul As Next Republican President

Like the Oscars, this year’s CPAC straw poll opened up the field to many more candidates than ever before, but at the end of the day, the Conservative Political Action Committee voted Ron Paul to be the next GOP Presidential candidate, with 31%. Of course, like most of what happens at CPAC, the results have no real authority.

Mitt Romney had won the past three year’s straw polls.

Via CQ Politics:

“Newcomers to the poll are Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, Sen. John Thune (S.D.), House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence (Ind.) and former Sen. Rick Santorum (Pa.). They join six veterans of the poll: former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Rep. Ron Paul (Texas), former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, former Speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.) and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.”

The rest of the results:

Mitt Romney – 22%
Sarah Palin – 7%
Tim Pawlenty – 6%
Mike Pence – 5%
Newt Gingrich -4%

Oh. Many attendees booed when the results were announced.
