BREAKING: “Anonymous” Successfully Hacks “God Hates Fags” Websites

“Anonymous,” the Internet hacking activists or, “hactivists,” today reportedly took down the Internet websites of the “God Hates Fags” church, also known as the Westboro Baptist Church. As we reported Monday, Anonymous had reportedly threatened God Hates Fags if the “church” did not comply with their directive to “Cease & desist your protest campaign,” and “close your public Web sites.” Anonymous was claiming the “damage incurred will be irreversible, and neither your institution nor your congregation will ever be able to fully recover.”

For their part, Westboro responded with a long screed, punctuated in large caps with two words: “Bring It.”

But tech sites earlier in the week reported that Anonymous had been calling this threat a hoax, claiming the Westboro Baptist Church group is actually behind the threats, and faked the original open letter to gain publicity.

Anonymous is believed to be behind the take-down of Internet sites for PayPal, Amazon, MasterCard, and Visa that highlighted those companies opposition and termination of business arrangements with WikiLeaks.

The Westboro Baptist Church has been known for its threats, some carried out, to protest funerals, such as those of Elizabeth Edwards, the victims of the recent Tucson, Arizona shooting, soldiers, and the victims of the Virginia Tech shooting.

The Westboro Baptist Church’s websites, GodHatesFags.com, PriestsRapeBoys.com, GodHatesAmerica.com, GodHatesTheWorld.com, JewsKilledJesus.com and AmericaIsDoomed.com are all down as of this writing.

UK site PinkNews reported a few minutes ago, “The one page of the website that does resolve contains a letter from the Anonymous group that says the church’s website has been “seized by Anonymous under section #14 of the rules of the Internet,” but this is not the case currently.

Politically Illustrated earlier today reported, “If you’re reading this, it means that Anonymous has lost its patience with you, likely because you’ve threatened us again after we denied you a war,” read a statement by Anonymous, posted on a website by the Westboro Baptist Church,” and added,

“Your recent antics to gain media attention for yourself were found to be laughable. In response to your rather poorly-written ‘bring it’ letter, wherein you tried to goad Anonymous into giving you yet more attention by calling us ‘crybaby hackers,’ we wrote, sincerely, a press release explaining clearly the hoax behind the initial declaration of war against your church,” said Anonymous.

“Take this defacement as a simple warning: go away. The world (including Anonymous) disagrees with your hateful messages, but you have the right to voice them. This does not mean you can jump onto Anonymous for attention.”

“God hates fags: assumption. Anonymous hates leeches: fact.”
