Bradlee Dean Seeks Judge’s Recusal, Says She Is Acting Like A ‘Woman Scorned’

Bradlee Dean, the Christian rocker and youth minister who sued MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow in a $50 million defamation lawsuit and was recently ordered to pay Maddow’s court costs — almost $25,000 — filed papers today seeking the judge’s recusal. Dean, founder and head of You Can Run But You Cannot Hide International (YCR), in the court documents filed, says D.C. Superior Court Judge Joan Zeldon “harbored extra-judicial bias and prejudice against me and YCR stemming from our conservative Christian advocacy against the so-called gay and lesbian political agenda, which is based in part on teaching young children in public and private schools that homosexuality is “normal”societal behavior which is acceptable for students to emulate and practice.”

Dean’s statement continues:

Specifically, it became clear to me, based on Judge Zeldon’s statements and actions, that she favored Defendant Rachel Maddow, who is an avowed lesbian and Defendants NBC and MSNBC, both of which are strong advocates of this gay and lesbian political agenda and which broadcast far left news and commentary.

Talking Points Memo adds:

“Judges are to enforce the law, not to defend lawbreakers and then award them money,” Dean said in a statement Tuesday. Dean sued MSNBC, Rachel Maddow and a Minnesota alternative publication last summer, claiming comments on his radio show about homosexuals were taken out of context. Alleging slander and false light, Dean sought damages in excess of $50 million.

In the notice filed on Monday, Dean’s lawyer, Larry Klayman — founder of Freedom Watch — claims that Zeldon showed bias and favoritism toward the defendants in the case. Klayman alleges that Zeldon made “snide and offensive comments” against him after he was unable to travel from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. to appear in court. “Judge Zeldon mocked and ridiculed Plaintiffs and their counsel while, to the contrary, Judge Zeldon referred to Defendants’ counsel approvingly as ‘distinguished,’ stating in effect that Plaintiffs and their counsel are not.”

Dean, in the notice, goes so far as to say Judge Zeldon’s “bias” is evident in her “acting like a ‘woman scorned.’”

No word yet on the outcome of the case, but Dean’s statement includes this phrase: “my good faith reasons for having voluntarily dismissed the case.”
