Bachmann Slams Same-Sex Marriage, But Her Latest Gaffe Is Criminal

Calling for state constitutional bans on same-sex marriage, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), almost certain to announce her 2012 candidacy for president this month, falsely branded Planned Parenthood a criminal organization. Speaking at Friday’s Faith and Freedom religious radical conservative conference, Bachmann also spewed lies about health care reform, promising its demise — along with the President’s.

Citing recent statistics that marriage rates have dropped substantially, Bachmann declared that “Marriage is under siege like no other time in America.”

“I believe that this is the time to do it,” Bachmann told the crowd of a few hundred, “If you don’t have an amendment [to ban same-sex marriage] in your state, consider it.” Bachmann, referring to her 2004 drive to ban same-sex marriage in her home state, bragged she had been “at the tip of the spear” of the battle.

Bachmann falsely stated that “last Saturday evening, Minnesota finally passed the constitutional amendment defining marriage as one man one woman.” In fact, the legislature passed a bill placing the question of defining marriage on the ballot as a referendum in 2012.

Michele Bachmann, founder of the U.S. House of Representatives’ Tea Party Caucus, belongs to a denomination of the Lutheran Church and has been the foster parent to 23 children plus five of her own. Her radical, bigoted, anti-gay religious views dictate her political policies and focus.

“We’re giving money to corrupt groups like Planned Parenthood,” Bachmann said, claiming the 95-year old organization — which receives no federal funds to perform abortions — is “committing crimes and enabling young, minor girls.” Bachmann also falsely reiterated the debunked notion that Planned Parenthood is engaged in “the trafficking of underage girls.”

On the morning that Gallup was reporting President Obama’s approval ratings at a 52-week high –53% — and his disapproval ratings at an all-time low — 39% — Bachmann falsely stated, “He’s at a very low ebb right now, as far as public opinion polls are concerned.”

Also speaking at this weekend’s Faith and Freedom Conference are former Governor Tim Pawlenty, former Governor Mitt Romney, Ron Paul, Herman Cain and former Senator Rick Santorum.

Bachmann ended her 20-minute speech with a prayer.
