Bachmann: My Husband, Our Business Are Not Running For President (Video)

Michele Bachmann, who has been under fire, along with her husband, Marcus, for their views on homosexuality and for the type of work their Christian counseling practice performs, refused to answer a reporter’s question about her beliefs on ex-gay or “reparative” therapy, stating only that she is proud of her husband and they have been married for 33 years, and she, not her family or their business is running for President.

Bachmann and Assocates, the business owned by both Michele and Marcus Bachmann in MInnesota, has been accused of practicing so-called “pray away the gay” therapy, that purports to turn a homosexual into a heterosexual. This practice has been called harmful and damaging by major medical organizations, like the AMA and the APA.

At a press conference, Rep. Bachmann, a Republican, was asked a question posed by the Washington Blade’s Chris Johnson, “Do you believe reparative therapy can change gay people into being straight, and has any federal funding gone through your clinic?”

“I’m running for the presidency of the United States. My husband is not running for the presidency, neither are my children, neither is our business, neither is our foster children [sic] and I’m more than happy to stand for questions on running for the presidency of the United States,” Bachmann responded. More on the video:

Bachmann is a supporter of Bradlee Dean, the hard rock Christian youth minister who recently made headlines by suing MSNBC and Rachel Maddow, among others, for defamation. Bachmann has headlined a fundraiser for the radical anti-gay preacher, and Dean specifically mentioned Rep. Bachmann at a press conference discussing his lawsuit.

“These attacks were not just intended to maliciously destroy my ministry and me for challenging so called “gay rights” activists, but also were intended to harm and destroy the presidential campaign of Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, who like myself share pro – family values,” Dean said yesterday.

Thanks once again to the great folks at Think Progress for the video!
