Failed GOP presidential candidate and Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann Thursday introduced the first bill into the new, 113th Congress, and it wasn’t the Violence Against Women Act, it wasn’t a bill to fund relief for victims of Hurricane Sandy. Bachmann introduced a bill to repeal Obamacare — for the 34th time.
The sheer and utter nerve, gall, and tone deafness of Michele Bachmann is legendary, but this may be one of her most egregious offenses.
Once Hurricane Sandy became Superstorm Sandy, and once Superstorm Sandy ended, well over 100 people in the U.S. were dead, well over $60 billion in damage was done, and yet Michele Bachmann and the Republican Party — even after GOP Governor Chris Christie‘s epic and warranted meltdown attacking John Boehner on Wednesday — believed the American people, especially those in Minnesota, sent her to Congress to take healthcare away from American citizens.

The Republican Party is growing increasingly away from the citizenry, growing more extreme, and shrinking in power and respectability as a result. Their abject ignoring of the will of the people is disgusting.

“House Republicans have unsuccessfully voted 33 times in the last two years to eliminate health care reform and wasted at least 88 hours and $50 million, while failing to pass a single piece of job creation legislation in the last session of Congress,” Adam Peck at Think Progress writes:
Dozens of Republicans, including 2012 presidential candidate Mitt Romney, ran against Obamacare, yet the party suffered losses every step along the way. The Supreme Court upheld the law, House repeal efforts went nowhere in the Democratically-controlled Senate, and President Obama has pledged to veto any effort to rescind the measure. Even newly reelected Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) was compelled to admit in November that Obamacare is now the law of the land (though he later backed away from his own comments and pledged to do everything in his power to undermine it).
But House Republicans are apparently not quite ready to give up the fight. At this rate, they could be on track to becoming even less productive than the least productive Congress in U.S. history.
Millions of Americans and hundreds of cities and towns cannot recover from Hurricane Sandy because the GOP failed its number one job: to protect and support Americans in times of crisis. The Republicans clearly care only about GOP politics and, as NJ Governor Christie said, “palace intrigue.” Passing a bill to fund relief efforts is, apparently, not of great import. 68 days after Sandy, not a penny has been allocated to help rebuild.

Millions of women every year are subject to violence, including rape. The Violence Against Women Act affords local and state governments resources to protect these women. Which is why the GOP wants the law to die.
Bachmann won re-election by 4000 votes. It’s pretty much a guarantee it’s her last term in Congress.
