Anti-Gay Christian High School Student Gets Detention – Fox Calls It Suspension

Dakota Ary, an anti-gay Christian high school freshman in Ft. Worth, Texas, received a two-day detention after announcing in his German class that “homosexuality is wrong,” he says. His mother got him hooked up with the virulently anti-gay Liberty Counsel — loosely affiliated with Jerry Falwell — and the principal reduced the student’s sentence to one day detention. Ary was claiming his “religious beliefs” allowed him to make anti-gay comments in class, now Fox is calling it a First Amendment issue.

Now, Fox News is accepting Dakota Ary’s claim that he was suspended, verbatim, reporting in this video, “A Ft. Worth high school student says he was suspended from school for telling another classmate homosexuality is wrong.”

Notice throughout the broadcast the Fox News anchors all say, “The student and his mom say…” and make similar statements, not bothering to get the real story from school officials.

Typical lazy one-sided incorrect journalism, which we’ve come to expect from Rupert Murdoch’s network.

As anyone knows, there’s detention, and there’s suspension.

“In school suspension,” which is what Fox is calling it, is called detention. And detention is really not nationwide news, unless people want to make it so.

Frankly, Ary is being ill-served by how mother, the Liberty Counsel, and Fox. The real-life lessons he’s learning here will not serve him well.

Shame on them all.
