Anthony Weiner at 2:22 officially resigned as a member of Congress. Weiner again took full responsibility and apologized to his neighbors, constituents, and his wife Huma. Weiner’s speech fully left the door open for a return.
Members of the audience, mostly press, shouted, “pervert,” heckled him with obscenities, and one, identified by TMZ as Benjy Bronk from the Howard Stern Show, offensively, could clearly be heard yelling, “Are you more than seven inches?”
Weiner, who spoke at a seniors’ center, was not obligated to stand in public and resign, and reporters suggested he did because he intends to return to public life.
The L.A. Times writes,
“It’s a loss,” said Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.). “He could articulate the issues very well and dramatize them. Anytime you lose that kind of talent, of course it’s a loss.”
“There is life after Congress for Anthony Weiner and I hope he devotes himself to repairing the damage he caused to his personal life,” Rep. Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.) said in a statement.
