Anderson Cooper Asks Baptist Leader About His Gay Marriage Linked To N. Korea Nuclear War Claim

Anderson Cooper talked with Southern Baptist Convention president Fred Luter last night about his comments linking same-sex marriage and gays in the Boy Scouts to North Korea’s threat to start a nuclear war with the U.S.

Luter, who represents 16 million Americans, had said:

“I would not be surprised that at the time when we are debating same-sex marriage, at a time when we are debating whether or not we should have gays leading the Boy Scout movement, I don’t think it’s just a coincidence that we have a mad man in Asia who is saying some of the things that he’s saying.”

But last night Luter nonchalantly tried to wiggle out of his words by claiming he was referring to other things.

Fred Luter’s lack of remorse is concerning, as was his lack of apology, and lack of understand the hurt and harm his words caused.

Luter literally blamed gay people and even straight allies who are discussing same-sex marriage and allowing gay people to join the Boy Scouts for inciting, for causing the leader of North Korea to threaten to start what would be a nuclear war — and World War III.

Pity he cannot see how harmful, vile, ugly, evil, and offensive his words were.

Luter says that a Supreme Court decision supporting same-sex marriage ultimately would lead to churches being forced to marry same-sex couples. When Anderson Cooper corrects him, he says, “not now Anderson, but I promise you brother, it’s gonna happen.”

Luter, thanks to Anderson Cooper, ultimately says his words linking nuclear war to gays were misunderstood.

No, Pastor Luter, we understood your words loud and clear. And no God I know is proud of you for them.
