Allen West, the Tea Party Republican U.S. Congressman from Florida is claiming that his Democratic opponent — who has never served in Congress — cut Medicare by $700 billion. West, who is a documented liar, is so desperate that he’s willing to actually run an ad that claims Patrick Murphy cut Medicare.
Frankly, it’s possibly one of the most-disgusting things West has said, and he’s said many.

In the ad, (video below,) which opens stating, “I’m Allen West and I approve this message,” West shows unnamed, anonymous seniors also stating falsehoods, like, “Patrick Murphy’s plan to cut Medicare for seniors is pretty dangerous.” But it’s the image, which you can see above, that states:
“Patrick Murphy cut Medicare $700 billion”
which is, frankly, disgusting.
As it turns out, Patrick Murphy released a statement in response:
“Congressman West has completely disregarded the truth in his latest attack ad by claiming that Patrick Murphy cut Medicare by $700 billion.  First of all, Patrick has never voted for anything in Congress since he has yet to be elected.  West also fails to mention that he voted for the Ryan Plan twice, which takes the same $716 billion from Medicare as the Affordable Care Act, but instead of addressing overpayments, the Ryan Plan uses the $716 billion for tax breaks for millionaires,†said Murphy for Congress communications director Erin Moffet. “The truth of the matter is, the only candidate in this race who has ever cast a vote in Congress is Allen West – and his votes have continually put the interests of millionaires and billionaires over the interests of seniors and middle class Americans. The lies in this latest ad show West’s desperation to hide the fact that he has voted twice to cut Medicare and turn it into a voucher program.â€
Joan McCarter, writing at Daily Kos, notes it’s “quite the feat, considering he’s not even in Congress yet. But what makes it even more special, it’s the same goddamned cuts West did vote for, in the Paul Ryan budget. And when he cast that vote, he said: ‘Anyone challenging me on my support to this visionary plan to restore our economic security will be signing up for a suicide mission.’ Come and get us, tough guy.”
We’ve documented Allen West’s fantasmagorical lies time and time again. Sadly, there’s no law stating that lying to the American people over and over and over and over and over and over again is illegal. If there were, West would probably be serving several life terms — in jail.
