“Kicking The Can Down The Road” On Hate Crimes, Too

Senate Now Poised To Hear Hate Crimes Bill Next Week

The Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Bill, which the House passed on April 29 (you remember, the day of Virginia Foxx’s infamous speech?) has been hanging around the Senate. After the also infamous (I’m going to start using that word a lot, I fear) DOJ DOMA brief, the gay community was told that the Hate Crimes bill would be voted on this week. Well, welcome to Friday, and no vote. HRC reports that the Hate Crimes Bill, officially known as the “Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009”, will be voted upon next week, “Pushing That One Down The Road A Little Bit,” too. Two months later. Nothing like rushing to protect Americans most in need… Oh, yeah, in case you hadn’t heard, the bill reportedly will be attached to a tourism bill. Will the ironies ever cease?…
