As many folks now know, President Obama yesterday afternoon spent almost an hour with a slate of five well-respected liberal bloggers. Each blogger got to ask one question, which ranged from asking the president what he thought of the recent Rand Paul operative who head-stomped a Move-On.org activist, to Joe Sudbay’s excellent query, “One of the things I’d like to ask you — and I think it’s a simple yes or no question too — is do you think that “don’t ask, don’t tell†is unconstitutional?”
In giving this a lot of thought, personally, with all due respect to some of the other bloggers, I would not have asked “daily news” types of questions, (like the head-stomping query,) but rather, something broader. I think, were I to have the opportunity to sit down with President Obama, I would ask, “Do you believe your job is to lead, paint a vision, and not provide cover for hate, fear-mongering, and bigotry, and if so, would you work to support FULL equality and end discrimination?”
