15 Year Old Hacks ‘God Hates Fags’ Spokesperson’s Twitter Account

A 15-year old hacker known as Cosmo The God has taken control of “@DearShirley,” the Twitter account belonging to Shirley Phelps-Roper, officially the spokesperson of the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC). The WBC, who call themselves God Hates Fags, had their Internet website network taken down over the weekend by the hacktivist group Anonymous, in response to the WBC’s promise to picket the scene of the Newtown, Connecticut elementary school shooting that left 26 dead, including 20 children aged six and seven. Roper is also the daughter of WBC founder Fred Phelps.

Westboro regularly pickets at funerals of LGBT people, soldiers, and celebrities, holding signs states “God Hates Fags,” “You’re going to hell,” and, “Thank God for 9/11,” among others.

“So far the group has tweeted out a link to Shirley’s home phone number, a White House petition to recognize the WBC as a hate group, and lots of gloating,” Gizmodo reported this morning.

Jessica Roy at BetaBeat reports that the “infamous 15-year-old hacker Cosmo the God of the Underground Nazi Hacktivist Group (UGNazi) appears to have joined the fray,” of hackers attacking Westboro.

Cosmo and the UG Nazi crew gained notoriety over the past year for hacking sites like 4chan, NASDAQ and CIA.gov, many of which they say were in protest of SOPA. Cosmo himself, who lives in Long Beach and turns 16 in March, is a famed teen hacker, and just last month was sentenced in juvenile court for felonies such as credit card theft and online impersonation. Placed on probation until his 21st birthday, Cosmo isn’t allowed to use the Internet without consent from a parole officer or have any contact with members of Anonymous or UG Nazi.

If it’s really him, clearly these actions against WBC would violate his parole. “COSMO? Cosmo THE GOD?” reads one tweet he retweeted. “I think this might be a violation of your parole, brah. #soworthit.” Of course, there’s a chance it’s not actually him, and instead another hacker belonging to the UG Nazi crew or otherwise; we’ve reached out to Cosmo for confirmation.

Anonymous hacked Westboro’s websites over the weekend, as they did in early 2011.

The Westboro Baptist Church also released a vile video claiming “God sent the shooter” to Newtown, CT for their support of gays and same-sex marriage and for America’s rejection of the WBC.
