New York City Speaker Christine Quinn, who is running for Mayor, talked with MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts about the rise in anti-LGBT hate crime violence, her upcoming mayoral race, Anthony Weiner, her record as Speaker, and her new book, With Patience and Fortitude: A Memoir.
Roberts noted there have been 24 documented anti-LGBT violent hate crimes in NYC this year so far, more than double the ten documented cases over the same period last year.
Quinn, who is organizing self-defense classes starting tomorrow for the LGBT community, told Roberts you have to try many different ways to solve problems, and not just one solution can work.
Respectfully, she added, she doesn’t take her opponents seriously, she takes her constituents seriously.
If elected, Quinn would become both the first woman mayor of New York City, and the first lesbian to hold that office.
