Clinton Warns Republicans To Not ‘Abdicate’ Responsibility On Scalia Replacement
Democratic Presidential Candidate Says Conservatives ‘Dishonor Our Constitution’ By Calling For Next President To Nominate New Justice
Hillary Clinton Saturday evening issued a statement honoring the life of Justice Antonin Scalia but warned Republicans to not “dishonor our Constitution” by refusing to allow President Barack Obama‘s eventual nominee to be confirmed.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Justice Scalia as they mourn his sudden passing. I did not hold Justice Scalia’s views, but he was a dedicated public servant who brought energy and passion to the bench,” Clinton said in her statement, which she also posted to Twitter.
“The Republicans in the Senate and on the campaign trail who are calling for Justice Scalia’s seat to remain vacant dishonor our Constitution,” the former Secretary Of State warned. “The Senate has a constitutional responsibility here that it cannot abdicate for partisan political reasons.”
