While the residents of Flint are drinking bottled water with no solution in sight, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder threw a party. And you have to see the cake to believe it.
One thing about Michigan's governor Rick Snyder. He appears to be completely tone-deaf.
Michiganders have been venting their outrage this morning over a photo from a swanky birthday party the governor threw his wife Sue this weekend at the upscale West End Grill.
According to Jessica Webster at MLive, the centerpiece for the party was an elaborate cake made by Heather Anne Leavitt of Ann Arbor's boutique cakery, Sweet Heather Anne, which is known for its high-end, detailed cakes.
"I had no idea, like seriously no idea," said Heather Anne, who designed the cake. "We delivered it to the West End Grill and put it down and I'm taking photos of the cake. Then Claudia, who was also working on the cake with me, looks up and sees Rick Snyder on all the photos in the room, and so we put two and two together. We knew that renting out West End Grill is not a cheap thing to do on a Saturday night, but we have a lot of high end clients. We just didn't know this one was the governor."
The governor chose a cake for his wife made to look like Nordstrom and Tiffany & Co. boxes, a Michael Kors designer purse, a "diamond" necklace, and a bag from Chanel, all made from cake batter and fondant.
The cake took 30 hours to design, bake and decorate, and might have been appreciated more by the people of Michigan if it hadn't come at the end of a week when the governor told the 100,000 residents of Flint that the state can't afford to replace the water pipes that are leaching lead into their drinking water and poisoning their children, even though Michigan has a surplus sitting in a "rainy day" fund.
Here's Governor Snyder's cake:
Although the governor said he couldn't afford to replace Flint's pipes, he did promise to allocate money to cover the water bills of Flint residents, so they would no longer have to pay for the poison they've been drinking for the last two years.
What a guy!
