Sports Illustrated Puts Newly-Out Michael Sam On Its Front Cover

That was fast.
Sports Illustrated, the iconic sports magazine that Jason Collins turned to when he wanted to publish his coming out story, just put likely NFL draft pick and All-American MVP college football player Michael Sam on its cover.
Sam came out in a Sunday New York Times interview and video — saying, “I’m gay” — and also spoke with ESPN that same day.
The SI cover says, “America is Ready for Michael Sam,” but asks, “Is the NFL Ready for Michael Sam?”
Sports Illustrated, which turns 60 this year, is reportedly read by 23 million people each week — more than seven percent of the total U.S. population.
