Straight Man Has An Attack Of Gay-Empathy

by Jean Ann Esselink on November 2, 2013

in Actions,Jean Ann Esselink,News

A straight man posted on his Facebook page, photos from his gay brother’s wedding. To his surprise, one of his “friends”, a man he used to work with, unfriended him so he didn’t have to look at his gay ungodly postings.

As he considers the unfriending, the straight man is struck by the rejection his brother, and every other gay person is exposed to, just for being themselves, often from their own families, and is overcome by his emotions.

Empathy is a very powerful thing.

Empathy should be honored whenever it occurs. Your headline seems a little snarky for the content of the video. I was touched by what he had to say; I cannot figure-out from where the root of the 'snarkiness' arises, but it seems inappropriate to me. This man's brother has much to celebrate, and having this man as a brother is one of those good things. I reject the snarky and celebrate the empathy.

I agree with you. The headline suggests that it is a sudden and short-lived change of heart, not a deeper realization of what his brother experiences daily.
