Bill and Denise Richard, whose 8-year-old son Martin was killed in the Boston Marathon bombing, were kind enough to share this photo of their daughter Jane today, via the Tumblr account that updates the family’s progress.

Jane has been released from Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital where she has been undergoing intensive physical therapy after she lost the lower part of her left leg. When she finally came home, Jane entered the family home with crutches, but under her own power. She has since received a prosthetic leg, but can only use it for limited periods of time until she becomes accustomed to it. Her parents wrote in the family update that “Her strength, balance and comfort with the leg improve every day.”

Jane, who was an enthusiastic dance student before the bombing, is already dancing on her prosthetic leg.  Her family reports that she “struts around on it with great pride” and that watching her dance, with most of her weight on her healthy leg is “priceless.”

The loss of their son Martin still weighs heavily on them, but they say they are trying to move forward. Now that Jane is back home, and Bill and Denise have recovered from the injuries they sustained in the Boston attack, they have turned their thoughts to finding a suitable way to memorialize Martin. Their website notes: “We hope to honor Martin’s memory in a meaningful and impactful way, and this fall we intend to start exploring ways to do that.”
