Trump Brags About ‘Wonderful Small Donors’ Paying for His Legal Fees
‘I Am Working Hard For Them!â€
Donald Trump began his regularly-scheduled Saturday morning tweet-spree by praising his supporters’ willingness to donate to the Republican National Convention, or RNC.
“Can’t believe I finally got a good story in [The Washington Post],†the president wrote. “It discusses the enthusiasm of ‘Trump’ voters through campaign….â€

Trump’s praise of the Post, which he has frequently attacked as being fake news, appeared to reference an article published Friday afternoon entitled “Trump supporters eager to ‘drain the swamp’ help fill Republican Party coffers.â€
In it, the outlet wrote:
Fueled by a string of fundraising appeals from President Trump to his supporters, the Republican Party is on track to raise more money from small-dollar contributions than it has collected in more than a decade.
The influx of cash from Trump’s base is helping the GOP amass a major advantage as the parties prepare to battle for control of Congress in the 2018 elections, with the Republican National Committee pulling in nearly twice as much money overall as its Democratic counterpart this year.
The RNC’s success with small donors illustrates how the Republican Party, long a center of the political establishment, has managed to turn Trump’s anti-Washington message to its advantage.
Last week, the Trump campaign exploited the national anthem to raise funds. The move followed a Reuters report that Donald Trump is using the funds donated to his re-election campaign, as well as funds from the RNC, to pay for his lawyers in the probe of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
The U.S. Federal Election Commission does allow this, and the outlet noted that they “could not determine how large a legal bill Trump has incurred to date from his lawyers on the Mueller investigation.â€
