U.S. Senator Rand Paul Says ‘Unelected’ Supreme Court ‘Played God’ With Abortion

Republican U.S. Senator Rand Paul is calling for a so-called “personhood” law to “end abortion on demand once and for all.” Sen. Paul, a Tea Party Libertarian Republican and the son of Congressman Ron Paul, has recorded a message for the National Pro-Life Alliance. Paul is attacking the U.S. Supreme Court as “nine unelected men and women” who have “invented laws” and “played God with innocent human life” because of the Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion.

Senator Paul, whom some thought might be softening his positions when it became clear Mitt Romney was going to lose the November election, clearly has not.

“Will you help me in a bold and aggressive campaign to end abortion on demand once and for all?” Paul asks.

Paul claims “Congress has the power to legislatively end Roe v. Wade,” which is stunning, since no law can overrule a Supreme Court verdict; only a constitutional amendment can — but that’s not what Paul is advocating.

U.S. Senator Rand Paul, a Tea Party favorite, is advocating for Congress to make a new law, a “personhood” law, called the LIfe at Conception Act,” establishing that human life begins at conception, and extending the 14th Amendment to all fetuses.

Paul in the audio message calls law “legal mumbo jumbo,” yet tells supporters, “we in Congress have the right to legally define when life begins,” regardless of what the truth is.

Poor Rand Paul. Hiding behind objectivist bullshit and infusing his poorly built, unintellectual religitard bullshit into public policy.

Right… because what else should we expect from a physician, son of an OB/GYN, but a 'Death to Moms' campaign?

Sorry about your ectopic pregnancy ma'am, but those cells preparing to destroy you hold the same constitutional rights as you do.

Sorry to hear that you've barely stabilized your mental health, but the drugs required would harm the embryo growing inside you; the government now has constitutional authority to grant your embryo representation to fight for its life in court.

And, that so-called cancer thingy you're whining about? What harm could possibly come from dropping treatment for a few months? I'm Dr. Rand Paul, I'm smarter than you, and you should just quit worrying about things that don't matter.

I don't give a flying fig that Paul's definition of "on demand" might include a life-of-mother clause. He would still require women and their families to plead their cases to medical and judicial systems which should not be making women's decisions for them.

Why is the Religious Right so blind to Freedom of Religion issues? (rhetorical) There is *no* consensus even within the Christian community as to when personhood occurs. St Augtustine (5c CE Bishop of Hippo) hoped no one would have the hubris to decide when life began. Then let's also consider the other great world religion. e.g. Judaism and Islam. Oops! We've got quite a few "nones". What about them? Oh well, I know it's all the fault of LGBT people and our allies that there are any problems with this issue.

BTW – There have been members of the Religious Right who categorically deny that there could ever be a valid exception for life of the mother:(

Let's make clear Rand Paul has some liberal ideas but has nothing to do with Objectivism or Libertarianism and has said so. Libertarians want abortion safe, legal and rare by removing legal blocks to contraceptives, adoptions, in vitro, snowflake adoptions, etc. typically created by the right in the first place.

For info on what Libertarians are doing, see

While I agree that Rand Paul is basically a fundamentalist idiot, he is NOT wrong about the powers of Congress. They certainly MAY legislate around decisions of the Supreme Court and it does NOT take a constitutional amendment to do so! Mr. Badash might want to review these respective powers in the Constitution instead of making himself appear to be an uninformed fool.

What is the deal with these men's need to determine what a woman does with her body? The Republican party has made vaginal probes part of their platform.

"Played God"? In science I trust, much more than anyone's deity. This is just more religious crap being shoved down society's collective throat.
