The parents of Roderick “RJ” Arrington Jr., who are under arrest in Las Vegas for allegedly beating their seven-year old boy to death for not reading the bible called their pastor first, asking him what to do next. The pastor told them to call 911.

The beatings that ultimately led to RJ’s death reportedly began on November 27, just five days after Thanksgiving. He was also beaten on November 28, and finally taken to the hospital after the parents called their pastor then 911, on November 29. He died the following afternoon, according to a report in The Huffington Post:

Police arrested the boy’s mother, Dina Palmer, 27, and stepfather, Markiece Palmer, 34, and charged them with the murder of the boy. Investigators said that Palmer “stood by and let her husband” shake and beat the boy to death.

According to KLAS, the arrest report detailed “open abrasions on [Arrington's] buttocks, severe bruising to his thighs, marks and bruises on his back and shoulders and evidence of previous beatings.”

Police claim the boy’s stepfather beat him with a spatula, belt and possibly a wooden paddle. Dina Palmer allegedly struck her son on his buttocks with both a belt and her hand.

The couple reportedly called a pastor before dialing 911. KSNV writes, “Pastor Kenneth Hollingsworth says he’s as shocked as anyone that Markiece Palmer chose to call him before first-responders.”

The Palmers appeared in court Tuesday and each face charges of murder, child abuse and neglect, the station reports.

Roderick “RJ” Arrington Jr. was seven years old, and murdered for not reading the bible.

What's wrong with these parents?!

Ah yes. The "Christian" way to raise a child. Beat them into submission, kill them if they don't submit. Got it.

They even have some guy who promotes this kind of whooping in To Train Up A Child and uses the Bible to bolster his reasoning. And he advocates starting this training program when they're still infants that includes slapping, pinching and more depending on what the baby instinctively does

This is not the "Christian" way. Neither is suicide bombing the "Muslim" way. I'm a Christian but I would never abuse my child.

Sure, sounds like a perfectly sane thing to do. At least this pastor had the good sense to tell them to call 911, instead of some, which believe purely in prayer healing.

Religion and their death sentences smh

Good people will do good, evil people will do evil. For a good person to do evil, that takes religion.

As a teacher of English (TEFL) and History (including the Holocaust), rarely does anything I read, see, or hear about leave me speechless anymore, yet throughout my entire reading of this article I was speechless and unable to respond or comment, at least not since 9/11 or Columbia Disasters. This is just plain cold and heartless with absolutely no redemption for either parent. They both deserve to be tried, convicted, and sentenced to death row in a maximum-maximum security prison in complete isolation for the rest of their lives. Every so often, we take them through like we're leading up to their execution; up to and including strapping them down and starting an IV for each of them…. what they did is beyond the pail, and if they do get sentenced to death, staunch opponent of the death penalty though I am, I am not sure I will care!

Should be shocking, yet it's not. Torture, fear, and brutality are everywhere in the Bible. These two goons probably haven't even a shred of remorse about it. Undoubtedly they feel they did nothing wrong.

How about an eye for an eye…….if they are such biblical followers……..

Charging the parents is another example of removing parental rights & creeping socialism. The child obviously had the devil in him & those parents were trying to exorcise the evil outta his body. I hope the Palmers refuse a Public Defender & request Jesus as their legal representation. "Jesus on the main line, tell Him what you want."
