Obama Using 54 Christmas Trees To Wage White House War On Christmas

The radical right wing nuts are at it again. It’s the Holiday Season, so it’s time to prove Obama is waging a War on Christmas — by having too many trees in the White House. George Bush had 49 Christmas trees in 2006 — but that garnered not a peep from conservatives.

Of course, there’s nothing like a good piece of BS to regurgitate year after year, so conservative blogger Andrew Malcolm at the right-wing Investor’s Business Daily went into his archives and pulled out the same piece of BS as he did last year, updated it, and ran it yesterday:

Amazing how a reelection can reshape an incumbent’s thinking about many things. Now safely ensconced in the White House for 49 more months, the Obamas have decorated the place with 54 Christmas trees this year.

Even allowing for the usual Washington excesses with taxpayer money, that’s a whole grove of Christmas trees.

“We have 54 trees in the White House,” an excited Michelle Obama proudly told visitors the other day. “54! That’s a lot of trees.”

In fact, the Obamas’ 54 trees this year are almost 50% more Christmas trees than last year. That was during the campaign before Obama whispered a reminder to the Russians that he had to be careful until Nov. 6, when a victory would give him more “flexibility.”

Now, how much carbon do you suppose those 54 trees could be sequestering had they not been chopped by this green president?

And no wonder Obama talked over the weekend about addressing tax increases before any of that annoying business about cutting spending to address this thing called the national debt, now having soared past $16.3 trillion..

Here’s Andrew Malcolm’s BS from last year:

The economy may be weak, unemployment strong and the first family soon to vacate the White House for another half-month of vacation in Hawaii.

But the Obamas have gone all out in decorating their house this year, including a nearly quarter-ton gingerbread White House.

They have also installed 37 different Christmas trees. Thirty of the trees are live, or were, including one nearly 19-feet tall from Wisconsin. Seven of the three dozen Christmas trees are artificial or homemade including, of course, one from recyclables.

Seriously, get a life pal.

Why not mention the Obamas have opened the White House to visitors — an expected 90,000 will see the People’s House tho year — whereas the Bush’s closed the White House after 9/11.

Why not mention some of these trees are decorated for and dedicated to America’s Armed Forces?

No, it’s easier to curmudgeonly attack the Obamas.

These curmudgeonly harridans need to 'get a life' — SERIOUSLY!

Of course decorating the White House for Christmas is a long cherished tradition, and it is done by volunteers. The decorations are reused year after year, and new ones added by volunteer florists and benefactors. This nonsense about President Obama being wasteful is just more of the Scrooge like nonsense cooked up by his political detractors. As evidence of this being a very long held practice – Christmas tours of the White House are annual events, too – here is a pr link from when his predecessor was in office.

You have to realize, the pine is sacred to Attis and some other deities. I knew the Right was incorrect in claiming Obama was not a Christian but a Muslim because I know the Obamas, both Barack and his wife, are practicing Attis worshipers. Attis died on a pine log. If they have that many Attis logs in the White House the truth will out: the Obamas are pagans.

I must quibble slightly. I contributed one year to the White House Christmas trees. Yes, I, as one of the artists, was invited to a private viewing of what had been done with our contributions.

It was fabulous: First of all, I am a knitter. The word went out to all the knitting guilds to ask for hats and mittens to adorn the many Christmas trees. I made a Christmas Tree green hat into which I knitted many decorations: (Wonderful to look at, horrible to wear!)

I, and all the other knitters, were invited to have a private tour of the White House to see the trees we'd decorated. So, having frequent flyer miles available to me as a business woman, and the world's best MIL who acted as baby sitter to my two small daughters, I was able to fly to DC, and have a weekend where I could do anything I wanted. Like *sleep.* Go to art galleries. Visit the White House. Yippee! I could be an adult again!

Long story short: Our tour was on the day Clinton was impeached, which led to a really bizarre athmosphere- I managed to find my hat on a tree, and my co-knitter's mittens. Regrettably, the hats and the mittens are being stored someplace safe. They will never be given to the public. But, they can be re-used if it ever makes political sense on another White House Christmas Tree.

The ornaments go into storage forever. It makes things easier. Politically speaking.

And people like to create and give!
