A Right Wing group called Government is not God, (or maybe it is God is Not Government, McAffee virus prevention kept me from actually visiting their site,) sent out a hate filled warning to gay-loving President Obama, last week. They want him to know their god is going to get him for his support of LGBT issues. I’m sure the Secret Service was thankful for the heads-up.
The group seemed particularly angry that the President asked 9-year twins, Zea and Luna Weiss-Wynne, to introduce him as he kicked off Pride Month at the White House. At least I think that’s what their bible passage du jour is getting at:
But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.” – Matthew 18:6.
The girls, who are the proud daughters of lesbian moms, wrote a letter to the President offering some heartfelt advice, which they read to the crowd: Make it harder to buy guns. Make schools better. And the one that got a rousing cheer from the LGBT-heavy audience: make same sex marriages legal.
If you would like to read the entire letter, it’s quite charming. Click on the thumbnail to enlarge it.
You can also watch Zea and Luna upstage the President in the White House video below:
The reason I said I “think” the group was referring to the President’s invitation to the girls when they chose their “go jump in a lake with a stone around your neck” quote, is because of what they wrote in the very first line of their press release. See if it jumps out at you.
President Barack Hussein Obama and Vice President Joe Biden spent last Thursday celebrating “gay pride” at a White House ceremony – a ceremony that included two young twin girls who are being “parented” by two lesbians.
Did you catch it? What bothers me are the quotation marks around the word “parented.” If lesbians don’t parent their children, what is it they think is going on? Don’t answer that.
As a straight woman, I probably find more humor than most gay people do in the dire predictions of doom the evangelicals trot out every time a gay crosses their path. I admit I find some amusement in the fact the Pat Robertsons of the world try to convince their followers that gays can make their god so angry he uses weather as a weapon. Or that he oks terrorists strikes as his comment on who is sleeping with whom. You’d think, being all powerful, God would just reach down and turn you straight, or kill you dead. But I guess hurricanes and bridge collapses are fun too.
But there is one Conservative canard that does not amuse me. In fact, it makes me angry enough to pull out the keyboard, which is my personal equivalent to an NRA member grabbing for his shotgun. I don’t appreciate Conservatives conflating “gay” and “pedophile” overtly, or covertly. I am angered by the quotation marks around the word “parented” and Government Is Not God‘s choice of the “go throw yourself in the deep blue sea” quote, meant to insinuate there is something sexually sinister in every relationship between a gay person and a child.
That goes ten-fold for this particular attack on Zea and Luna and their “parenting” mothers.
So note to those who write the nasty threats for Government Is Not God, (or maybe it’s God Is Not Government) “Homosexual” is a big word. So is “pedophile“. But with some study, I think even the dullest of intellects should be able to grasp the concept that they do not denote the same thing. Homosexuals are sexually attracted to other adults of the same gender. Pedophiles are adults sexually attracted to children. See the difference? Maybe you can write it on your hand until you can learn it by heart. (Otherwise known as the Sarah Palin method.)
And, Government is God? Let me be the first to wish you a happy Pride Month.
