MSNBC afternoon anchor Martin Bashir yesterday compared Rick Santorum to a George Orwell 1984 totalitarian dictator.

Bashir offers this commentary:

It’s now time to clear the air, and when we saw the latest Republican frontrunner, Rick Santorum, speaking before a crowd yesterday, all we could think of was George Orwell’s novel, “1984,” about a society dominated by the most extreme form of totalitarianism.

The similarities with George Orwell’s novel, and that movie, are not just superficial. No, Rick Santorum holds some pretty stern views on a number of important issues and he regularly sounds like a theocrat.

For example, he asserted that the right to privacy does not exist and has equated same-sex relationships with bestiality.

From ‘1984’: “Brothers and sisters, the endless catalogue of bestial atrocities, which will inevitably ensure from this appalling act, must, can, and will be terminated.”

Mr. Santorum has pledged to repeal all federal funding for contraception and says individual states should be allowed to outlaw any kind of birth control.

From ‘1984’: “The forces of darkness and the treasonable maggots who collaborate with them must, can and will be wiped from the face of the earth.”

In reviewing his book, “It Takes a Family,” one writer said Mr. Santorum has “one of the finest minds of the 13th century.” But, I’m not sure. If you listen carefully to Rick Santorum, he sounds more like Stalin than Pope Innocent the Third.

Of course, the Right wing media is furious!

The Blaze writes a piece titled, “MSNBC’S MARTIN BASHIR COMPARES SANTORUM TO MASS MURDERING COMMUNIST JOSEPH STALIN.”

I remember a few years ago when everyone was comparing Obama to Hitler.
Then, it was ludicrous. People were blowing things way out of proportion. Or, they were all just bigots and racists.
Now this comparison of Santorum to Stalin. It's just about as ridiculous. And here is the NCRM condoning the comparison. Is the idea that this behaviour, though vile and despicable when done by others, is all right now because it might serve the LGBT? Or is it simply that reporters are saying whatever they can to get attention? The very idea of rational reporting seems to have gone out the window entirely.

bashir is absolutely correct about santorum. there is NO difference between neo Inquisitors palin, bachman or santorum. all three always push their personal irrational dictates to everyone they can, their entire Republican party is heading in their direction these days and their hateful lies and exclusionary tactics need to be first refuted by all and then they must be stopped in their tracks by the rest of america's coherent, thinking citizens
