McGreevey’s Ex-Wife: Two Million Marriages Break Up Because One Spouse Is Gay. So I Don’t Support Gay Marriage.
“There are at least two million marriages that break up each year because one of the spouses come out of the closet. You don’t understand unless you live it,â€
— Dina Matos, former wife of former NJ Governor Jim McGreevey
Matos says “I was raised a Catholic … I grew up in the church, so I believe in traditional marriage between a man and a woman.†She adds, “We have the civil union law in place, which I think is wonderful.”
She also said she was glad the same-sex marriage bill failed in New Jersey.
The fact that, were she to live in a society that freely allows people to love and marry the person of their choosing would have precluded her husband’s closeted lifestyle, never subjecting her – and two million others – to the agony no doubt she lived through entirely escapes the former Mrs. McGreevey.
