Rachel Maddow last night weighed in on the news that President Obama and Vice President Biden, and their wives, will not be attending the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Noting that no high-ranking American elected official or even a cabinet member will attend, but two openly-gay Olympians will be part of the official U.S. delegation, Maddow said it “does seem like a particularly satisfying snub” to President Putin.
The “snub” would be in response to Putin’s war on gays and anti-gay laws.
Indeed, it does, and it’s no coincidence.
As The New Civil Rights Movement reported last night, also snubbing the Russian Olympic Games are German President Joachim Gauck, the European Union’s commissioner for Justice, Citizenship and Fundamental Rights Viviane Reding, and French President François Hollande.
