Joe The Plumber: “People don’t understand the dictionary–it’s called queer”

Post image for Joe The Plumber: “People don’t understand the dictionary–it’s called queer”

“I Would Never Let “Queers” Near My Children”

Just when you thought we were safe from stupid, Joe The Plumber is back. In an interview with Christianity Today, which published last month’s interview with Newt Gingrich, discussed here, Samuel Wurzelbacher, talking about gays and gay marriage, had this to say:

“At a state level, it’s up to them. I don’t want it to be a federal thing. I personally still think it’s wrong. People don’t understand the dictionary–it’s called queer. Queer means strange and unusual. It’s not like a slur, like you would call a white person a honky or something like that. You know, God is pretty explicit in what we’re supposed to do–what man and woman are for. Now, at the same time, we’re supposed to love everybody and accept people, and preach against the sins. I’ve had some friends that are actually homosexual. And, I mean, they know where I stand, and they know that I wouldn’t have them anywhere near my children. But at the same time, they’re people, and they’re going to do their thing.”

Need we say more?

Let him speak all he wants – give him more interviews. It's this kind of right wing nut jobiness (probably not in the dictionary, sorry Joe) that continues to shrink the GOP, and that's okay by me.

David Badash May 4, 2009 at 11:15 pm

Touché!
Thanks for your comment – I agree!

equality4all24 May 6, 2009 at 1:34 pm

Wow what a dumbass and I feel extremely sorry for his friends too I'd dump his ass and find someone who accepts them for what and who they are.

StanJames June 5, 2014 at 4:43 am

when the repubs have to go dig up this clown from the past, you know desperation is upon them

BTW he is not a licensed plumber. He works (ed?) under the license of his boss, eg he's an apprentice

the only thing he's good for is lots of gas.

Tommy Edwards May 4, 2009 at 11:27 pm

The mascot of the GOP says he wouldn't let "queers" near his children… *Le Shock*

Let him talk all he wants. He further ingrains into the minds of the newly liberalized U.S. people that these ring wing loonies are not to be taken seriously. Their number are shrinking now that education is being "forced" upon them, and now that we "goddamn commie loving hippies" are allowed to be in the streets without fear of being accused of terrorism.

Who knows, maybe some day we'll have more than a 2 party system actually.

urban bohemian May 5, 2009 at 12:14 pm

That is the next level of the classic "Some of my friends are gay!" … "And they're not allowed anywhere near my children."

Wow. I agree, keep talking Joe! He's that perfect blend of stupid and crazy that makes some people re-think that whole calling themselves a Republican thing.

David Badash May 6, 2009 at 2:40 am

People like Joe The Plumber simply anchor the already anchored-in-stone base and help amplify Conservative stupidity, which, to your point, merely works in our favor.

It's kind of the reverse of the Peter Pan/ Tinkerbell effect: Every time Joe The Plumber speaks, a moderate Republican becomes a Democrat.

Real Liberals May 5, 2009 at 1:07 pm

It's sad to hear people talking like that at this point in time, and even more sad to have one of the main political parties taking advice from individuals like him. Fortunately, this kind of hate-mongering is less and less popular every day. Liberty and equality under the law will not be stopped Joe!

Cody May 6, 2009 at 1:04 am

Just a thought: there are still parts of the country who are run by guys like Joe. While to us, he's a bozo, to them, he's speaking their language and legitimizing it. And that can be dangerous to the gay men and women who live in those parts of the country.

The Repubs may be shrinking, but as long as they have guys like Joe (and lovely young ladies like Miss Cali), the places where these guys are still running the show will suffer. While in the larger picture, he's a blip, in the details, he can be the voice of the majority.

StanJames June 5, 2014 at 4:46 am

And the repubs keep pandering to their biggest and most reliable base – the old white men who still worship the confederacy

Recently saw a book by that racist limbaugh – didnt have to read it – on the jacket it said something about family values

his include being on his 4th wife

He's from MO btw which almost became a slave state. His dad was a colonel in the army – meaning in the segregated army (until 1948)

Hatred is passed down father to son at the dinner table

gerry May 6, 2009 at 2:09 pm

How sad. I looked up the word racist in the dictionary and his face came up. I really do feel bad for such a small minded person. How does he know that his children are not being taught by us "queers" or how about his doctor, his he sure that he is not one of us "queers".
Small minded and he lives in a small world. I feel bad for the impression he is leaving on his children.

"I’ve had some friends that are actually homosexual. And, I mean, they know where I stand, and they know that I wouldn’t have them anywhere near my children."

Hey i have friends! Friends that i dont trust, respect, or let inside my home or near my children. You know, best buds!

DarthEVaderCheney October 15, 2013 at 10:01 pm

Heyyyyyyyy, Joe!!! I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your part in ushering President Obama into his second term, and possibly helping Madame President Clinton win before she even declares herself a candidate! But we won't need you any more since the Republican Tea Party has guaranteed a 2016 Election win by default for the Democrats. So sorry about that, but they've worked their tails off to lose it! RIP!

You do know he is not a real licensed plumber, right? Actually he just does odd jobs with nothing particular he specializes in except hate.

Peter Blaise December 2, 2013 at 1:26 pm

It's absolutely amazing, Camino, that you cannot imagine that anal intercourse is practiced by HETEROSEXUAL couples all the time, and that NO sexual practice of any type is different between homos, heteros, and even monos.

Get off your fear of other people's pursuit of happiness and stop thinking everyone has to get your approval before exploring their own pursuit of happiness.

Why do you care about other's people's gender or sexuality?

Why do you think that everybody's self-governance should care what you think of someone else's gender or sexuality, and write laws that inflict your limits and whims onto others?

Get a pursuit of happiness of your own and stop thinking the whole world has to stand still while you figure out what fears you cannot overcome for yourself.
.

coastie721 December 2, 2013 at 1:47 pm

how is that racist, you are an idiot and just a total loser….. you have no clue about me or who I am, but you talk about ky, sodomy, so you must the sodomite, and you still make no sense and can't spell….

123Coffee456 December 10, 2013 at 6:12 pm

I hope you've never fingered your wife.. or eaten her out.. b/c us lezzies do that too! Also, if you've ever ONCE watched lesbian porn (even in a moment of complete weakness) then you instantly forfeighted all right to ever make comment about my human rights.

If you don't like gay sex, then don't have gay sex. I don't like straight sex, so i stopped having straight sex. However, I'm not trying to stop you from doing it.

JLCapri November 25, 2013 at 9:57 pm

Joe the plumber or Joe the dumber? Where do these people come from? I travel all over the world and I never meet people as stupid as Joe the plumber.

camotim December 2, 2013 at 7:36 pm

stop going to bathhouses

totripoli May 25, 2014 at 1:20 pm

You mean like all the ultra-vocal anti-gay people do? Ted Haggard must be your hero.

StanJames June 5, 2014 at 4:47 am

the republicans want jerks like him – it makes them seem compatible to ttheir base.

camotim December 2, 2013 at 7:35 pm

pepe blaze, you cant even spell my name right—there is no Constitutional right to pursuit of happiness

peterblaise December 2, 2013 at 9:17 pm

.
c a m o t i m … camoflage Tim? — sorry, no edit here on prior posts, my bad.

The Constitution is not a list of rights, even though it contains a Bill of Rights, but is a list of delegated powers that we-the-people give to our own self-governance:

"… Amendment X: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people. …"

To the people, including the right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.

And breathing, and a court appointed lawyer if you cannot afford one, and group health services insurance to anticipate the cost of emergency medical services, and so on.

The Declaration of Independence, as well as the founder's and other's of the time personal writings, and the writings of the Presidents and other influential people in service to the US throughout history, especially Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, have been referred to in Court proceedings and in selecting members of courts and so on, as well as during arguments before the courts … also there is precedential respect for laws and history before the US, going back to the Magna Carter and so on.

The Declaration of Independence definitely defines legal arguments.

Does a cop on the beat whack someone parked poorly with the Declaration of Independence?

No, and they don't use the Constitution, either.

But there is a Constitutionally protected right to equal protection and due process to ALL within the state's jurisdiction.

ALL.

Including people that you and Joe the Plumber think are "queer", to quote Joe.

ALL.

America … gotta love it … or leave it, right?!? ;-)
.

SimonFieno February 19, 2014 at 3:14 am

The Constitution does not say "equal except for Queers". Sorry. And the Bible is irrelevant to the conversation.

camotim December 3, 2013 at 10:04 am

Notice you didnt mention the personal right to keep and bear arms–a right specifically enumerated in the US Constitution.

peterblaise December 3, 2013 at 4:09 pm

.
Yer (on topic) point?
.

totripoli May 25, 2014 at 1:22 pm

You mean the part where it says it's "in order to keep and maintain a well-regulated militia"? We have one of those – it's called the US military. The Constitution never mentions the specific right to own modern firearms – only "arms" of some sort. (I'm using the same logic you types use to claim there's no separation of church & state; see how well it works??)

camotim December 3, 2013 at 4:33 pm

dakatohgeo, you really need to take your Rx laxatives and clear your skull of all of the shit that is in there and stop believing the lies the voices in your shit bagger head keep telling you about me. I have a wonderful young lady in my life. And your remakrs about my medical condtion, my obesity, are disability hate speech which indicate that you are a shit bagger still stuck on being a grade school yard bully.

peterblaise December 3, 2013 at 11:06 pm

.
Ouch — nice mouth there camotim, is that the mouth you kiss your partner with?

=8^o

Speaking of bullies, you seem to know the lingo, apparently it takes one to know one.

And that's the problem with Joe the plumber (to keep this on topic) — some folks think they know better for other people what's good for them, and the funny thing is they are then seen to be neglecting to take care of themselves first or at all: they are hypocritical.

The problem is when they are in power over others, as self-defined "Christians" but are actually just bullies who are making laws to ostracize and exclude some of we-the-people from all of we-the-people.

I've yet to hear anyone explain why they care about someone else's gender or sexuality.

And more importantly, why they think we-the-people's self-governance should then take discriminatory action based on why you yourself care about someone else's gender or sexuality.

Does anybody want to take a crack at that?
.

camotim December 5, 2013 at 4:14 pm

because faggots are per se child molesters—

Peter Blaise December 5, 2013 at 6:33 pm

.
Wow, invent lies.

Actually, statistically, children are abused, sexually, by their own heterosexual birth mothers more than any other catagorizical group of abusers.

And in Christian households, abuse is greater the greater the fervent religious fundamentalism of the heterosexual parents.

But, hey, you believe what you want to believe, and no new information will change your mind — facts be damned!
.

colibriverde January 30, 2014 at 12:36 am

Gays and Lesbians are not per se child molesters. Most child molesters are hetero. "Most molesters of boys do not report sexual interest in adult men, however" (National Research Council, 1993, p. 143, citation omitted). "Dr. Carole Jenny and her colleagues reviewed 352 medical charts, representing all of the sexually abused children seen in the emergency room or child abuse clinic of a Denver children's hospital during a one-year period (from July 1, 1991 to June 30, 1992). The molester was a gay or lesbian adult in fewer than 1% of cases in which an adult molester could be identified – only 2 of the 269 cases" (Jenny et al., 1994). Members of disliked minority groups are often stereotyped as representing a danger to the majority's most vulnerable members. For example, Jews in the Middle Ages were accused of murdering Christian babies in ritual sacrifices. Black men in the United States were often lynched after being falsely accused of raping White women.

totripoli May 25, 2014 at 1:26 pm

Bearing false witness is a high sin, camotim.

camotim December 5, 2013 at 4:16 pm

lets see no history of same gender marriages until the past 25 years

Peter Blaise December 5, 2013 at 6:35 pm

.
I'll repeat:

For the last 50 years or so, the definition of marriage has been more based on:

– love,

– mutual sexual attraction,

– equality, and

– a flexible division of labor.

Notice that the gender of the marriage partners has nothing to do with it.

Love, mutual sexual attraction, equality, and a flexible division of labor — same-same for all.

No one's asking for any special rights.

We're only asking that same-same rights be respected according to law, with equal protection and due process for all within the state's jurisdiction.

Can't argue with that.
.

totripoli May 25, 2014 at 1:26 pm

Except in ancient Greece, Rome, imperial China, amongst Native American tribes even before the whites came, various points in Japan's history, and even in India in its past.

But keep making up your own revisionist history, and acting like straight people somehow "own" marriage. Next you'll be claiming that polygamy was never considered normal (while ignoring the Bible's mention of David's & Solomon's wives), right?

ldfrmc January 4, 2014 at 6:23 pm

"God is pretty explicit in what we’re supposed to do–what man and woman are for."
" Now, at the same time, we’re supposed to love everybody"

I see now how "christians" are so easily confused and anxious.

BlueStateBrad February 9, 2014 at 6:43 pm

I just don't get the false equivalency of gay people being child molesters or "recruiters". Can somebody clear this up for me?

Darsan54 March 18, 2014 at 1:58 pm

"I’ve had some friends that are actually homosexual. " – Joe the Plumber.*

As opposed to those faking it for the news cameras?

*an insult to all those who deal with out sh#t.

Themyscira April 8, 2014 at 10:36 am

I hope he doesn't let heterosexual men near his daughters, they are FAR more likely to be molested by a straight man than a gay man going after their son… dumb ass honky.

scottsteaux63 June 2, 2014 at 4:52 pm
BeachJC June 4, 2014 at 10:00 am

I know many people who would rather have me 'sit' their children than anyone else, because they know their children will be safe, well looked after, with laughter and games a'plenty.

coastie721 December 2, 2013 at 1:49 pm

Well said Peter…..

dakotahgeo December 3, 2013 at 1:48 am

Thank you, Peter! Poor camotim may well be a cloak-wrapped pedophile priest that isn't doing a very competent job of disguising him/herself!

dakotahgeo December 3, 2013 at 1:49 am

The poor little camotin is probably wondering why nobody wants to date him, male or female!

camotim December 3, 2013 at 10:06 am

go eat a cow pie–I hold the Priesthood and am enagaged to married to a very nice Latina

peterblaise December 3, 2013 at 4:13 pm

.
Congrats and best of luck to the both of you.

(I won't even try to parse that sentence of yours, nor review your choice of adjectives or identifications — just know that no one is voting on your marriage, and we expect the same.)
.

camotim December 3, 2013 at 4:35 pm

why peterbalise is changing the deeinition of an ancient institution somehting which homosexuals have a special right not to be subkitted to the popular will—and as far as subitting a marriage i might eneter into to a popular vote I have no problem whatsoever

peterblaise December 3, 2013 at 11:45 pm

.
Nope, in Arizona, you may be voted out of marrying a Latina, even a native with 200+ years of family ancestry there before the US white folks moved in to take over and disenfranchise the natives.

No one is subjected to popular will because the US is not a majority-rules country: remember the Constitution?

If "popular will" were the rule of the day, Jim Crow would still separate some of we-the-people from all of we-the-people.

No one is redefining (speaking of spelling) any "ancient institution" — do you mean "marriage?

Let's review the "ancient institution" you call to MY mind:

– a way of getting in-laws, of making alliances and expanding the family labor force

– a strategic alliance between families, with the youngsters often having no say in the matter

– in the Bible, Isaac and Jacob married cousins and Abraham married his half-sister

– Jacob, David, Solomon, and others had dozens of wives

– men could dissolve a marriage or take another wife if a woman was infertile

– note that the EARLY Christian church argued that marriage was NOT contingent on producing offspring!!!

– monogamy only become central to Church marriage in the ninth century, NOT "ancient" by any measure

– men had wide latitude to engage in extramarital affairs, children resulting from those trysts were "illegitimate" with no claim to the man's inheritance, OR THE PRIEST'S CHURCH PROPERTY, men's promiscuity was protected by dual laws of legal monogamy but tolerance of male promiscuity

– women caught stepping out were adulterers and lost their children and households

– until the 1500s, the Church accepted a couple's word that they had exchanged marriage vows, with no witnesses or corroborating evidence needed

– about 250 years ago, marriage became based on a man's love and sexual desire,

– 100 years ago, mutual attraction became recognized, before that, many held that women were not supposed to have sexual urges at all

– marital rape was legal in many states until the 1970s, and women often could not open credit cards in their own names, if a wife was injured or killed, a man could sue the responsible party for depriving him of "services around the home," whereas women didn't have the same option if her partner was killed

THOSE DEFINITIONS OF AN "ANCIENT INSTITUTION"?!?

Yuck!

What is it about those "ancient institutions" that you want us to honor, camotim?

It's okay, we can leave all that in the past because for the last 50 years or so, the definition of marriage has been more based on:
