With three weeks left to go in the Virginia’s governor’s race, the latest poll has Democrat Terry McAuliffe leading the Ultra-Conservative Ken Cuccinelli among women by fourteen points, 51%-37%.
Looking to drive those numbers even wider, McAuliffe will have a secret weapon campaigning for him in Falls Church this Saturday: Hillary Clinton. The former first lady will officially endorse McAuliffe, who ran her 2008 presidential campaign, at a “Women For Terry” event at the State Theater this Saturday.
Recent negative ads by Cuccinelli have driven down McAuliffe’s lead among independents from 16 to 6 points, but overall, he is leading Cuccinelli by at least seven points in every recent polls. That lead seems to be driven by the women of Virginia who have overwhelmingly rejected Cuccinelli, the man who brought them vaginal probes and put right-to-lifers in clinics to shame them.
If women are the key to sending Cuccinelli packing, who better to fire up the estrogen crowd than Hillary Clinton? My guess is her message will be more substantive than: “We love you women!”
