President Barack Obama invited Donald Trump to visit him in the White House immediately after the election had been called for the Republican nominee. President-elect Trump met with President Obama for about 90 minutes, despite the meeting having been scheduled for only 10.
“We now want to do everything we can to help you succeed,” President Obama told Trump. “If you succeed, then the country succeeds.”
“I believe that it is important for all of us, regardless of party, to now come together and deal with the problems we face,” Pres. Obama said. He told reporters the meeting was “excellent.”Â
“I very much look forward to dealing with the president in the future,” Trump told reporters, saying he will seek Obama’s counsel in the future. “It was a great honor being with you and I look forward to working with you many, many more times.”
Calling President Obama “a very good man,” Trump said, “Mr. President, it was a great honor being with you.”
“We discussed a lot of situations — some wonderful, some difficult,” Trump added.
