Speaker Paul Ryan Postpones Statement on ObamaCare Repeal Bill
American Health Care Act Looks Near Death
At 3:30 PM EDT Thursday Speaker of the House Paul Ryan was scheduled to deliver a statement on the status of the American Health Care Act (AHCA). The bill, which is opposed by the majority of Americans, all House Democrats, and over 30 House Republicans, is likely to fail if Speaker Ryan decides to move forward as scheduled and have the full House vote on the bill Thursday evening.
Minutes ago, Speaker Ryan’s office announced his speech has been postponed while he tries to shore up votes to pass the bill.
If the bill fails, either by Ryan pulling the bill or by the bill not being passed on a full House vote, it will be a huge loss of power and capital for both Ryan and President Donald Trump. Trump likely will try to blame the Speaker for the loss.
The bill, should it pass the House, is not believed to have the votes in the Senate.
Currently, the speech is now scheduled for 7 PM EDT – watch live:
