Vandalized: Georgia Church Sign That Says ‘Satan Made Gays & Transgender’ (Video)
Pastor Stands by Message, Vows to Repair Sign and Leave It Up
A Georgia Christian pastor says he will repair the damage vandals caused to his church’s sign, which until Sunday night had read, “GOD CREATED MAN & WOMAN SATAN MADE GAYS & TRANSGENDER GEN 5:2.” As seen in a police photo (above) the sign was damaged with black paint and the letters were torn off.Â
The sign had been up for about three weeks, and Gwinnett County police say they received no complaints about it from any of the 860,000 residents.
Calling himself “a voice for the community,” Pastor Bobby Wright of The Back to the Bible Holiness Church stands by the sign’s message and vows to restore it. 11Alive reports Pastor Wright “defended it and said it has nothing to do about hatred.”
“I haven’t cursed anyone. I haven’t called anyone a name,†Wright said.
Even though he admits the “Satan made gays & transgender” part of his sign is “not in the Bible,” Pastor Wright told CBS46 he has no regrets, and he insists he is not preaching hate, but “the love of God” and the “truth.”
One openly-gay woman tried to help remove the paint from the church sign.
“We’re two Christians,” she told Pastor Wright, but he interrupted her.Â
“No ma’am, one Christian,” he interjected. “And we will never agree on that.”Â
Later, Wright said if LGBT people die without accepting Christ, “they’re going to Hell.”
Asked if he hates gay people, Wright responded, “Not the way you would say ‘hate.'”
“I’m not going to say I’m in love with them, because what you do is nasty,” Wright concluded.
