GOP frontrunner Donald Trump Thursday afternoon delivered a cruder-than-usual response to a strong and informed attack by Mitt Romney earlier today. The former Republican presidential nominee called Trump "a phony, a fraud," and decimated his claims of being a great business man.
Trump fought back by invoking what many believed to be a sexual connotation: that in 2012 Mitt Romney would have performed oral sex on him to win Trump's endorsement.
"I backed Mitt Romney," Trump said to a Maine audience this afternoon. "He was begging for my endorsement. I could have said, 'Mitt, drop to your knees.' He would've dropped to his knees. He was begging."
New York Times political reporter Nick Confessore posted these tweets:
Did Trump just make a blowjob joke? Is this happening?— Nick Confessore (@nickconfessore) March 3, 2016
Once again Trump makes a crude joke that could mean one thing but probably means the other thing.— Nick Confessore (@nickconfessore) March 3, 2016
Some more responses via Twitter:
It doesn't matter if Trump meant "on your knees" as begging and not oral sex. A President must be precise w/ his language.— Amanda Carpenter (@amandacarpenter) March 3, 2016
I see political analysis has turned to whether or not Trump was referencing oral sex when saying he could get Mitt to drop to his knees.— dan Strafford (@DanStrafford) March 3, 2016
"I could have said Mitt drop to your knees. He would drop to his knees" - Trump. Rubio subroutine switches from dick jokes to blowjob jokes— TBogg (@tbogg) March 3, 2016
I'm not the only one who thought he meant a blow job when Trump said Romney would have got on his knees for an endorsement, am I?— Gary Pearson (@captainpearson) March 3, 2016
So while Rubio is talking about Trump's small penis, Trump says Romney almost gave him a blowjob. Party of Lincoln! https://t.co/hh4Mq90tFe— Rugged Amethyst (@GrooveSDC) March 3, 2016
