Trump Super PAC Vows 7-Figure Fight Against Senator When He Comes Out Against New Health Care Bill
‘You Do Not Want to Mess With Donald Trump’s Base’
Friday afternoon Nevada Republican Dean Heller became the fifth U.S. Senator to announce he could not support the newly-released draft health care bill. And while it’s likely most if not all of those senate holdouts will acquiesce, a GOP Super PAC founded by former Trump campaign and administration officials immediately announced it would be creating a seven-figure ad buy to unseat Heller.
“America First Policies, a group started by some of President Donald Trump’s campaign advisers, is set to launch an advertising blitz against Nevada’s Republican Sen. Dean Heller, who on Friday came out against the Senate’s Obamacare repeal bill without significant changes,” Politico reports. “Heller is up for re-election in 2018 and is seen as one of the most vulnerable Senate Republicans in that cycle.”
The ad campaign will link Heller to Democratic Leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, painting the 57-year old freshman senator as a “typical politician.â€
The ad blitz is “an opportunity to show that groups aligned with Trump’s base are ready to go to bat for the president,” Politico reports, citing an unnamed source at America First Policies.
“You do not want to mess with Donald Trump’s base in a primary, particularly in a place like Nevada,†the source said.
America First Policies is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit started in January by former Trump campaign officials including Brad Parscale, Katrina Pierson, David Bossie of Citizens United, Rick Gates, Nick Ayers, and Marty Obst.
