Republicans Ram TrumpCare Bill Through House Committee in Early Pre-Dawn Vote
Major First Hurdle Passed
At 4:30 AM EST Republicans on the House Ways and Means Committee, after working for nearly 18 hours, passed the American Health Care Act, also known as TrumpCare, that will repeal and “replace” ObamaCare. The vote was 23-16 along party lines.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee is still working on legislation that will transform Medicaid.Â
Both bills are wildly unpopular, even among many Republicans. A large number of health related organization, including the AMA, and advocacy groups like AARP, have come out solidly opposed to the legislation.

Also at issue is the apparent lack of time spent in constructing and debating TrumpCare. The first vote on ObamaCare did not take place until 30 days after the bill had been filed. TrumpCare was filed less than three days ago.Â
There is no mercy in a system that makes health care a luxury. GOP repeal bill is not act of mercy. It is an act of malice. #ProtectOurCare pic.twitter.com/2pZG6uqgtl

Democrats are working hard to amend and delay passage of the Energy and Commerce legislation.

The full House will have to vote on the legislation before passing it over to the Senate, where it faces a rocky road in its current form.Â
You can and should call your Congressman and Senators daily to demand they oppose this legislation that will force millions of people to lose their health coverage:Â (202) 224- 3121.
