New York City Tabloids Trash Trump
Presumptive GOP Nominee Get No Hometown Love
The New York Daily News and the New York Post both trashed the GOP and its presumptive nominee, NYC’s own Donald Trump, in their front page cover stories Thursday morning, in the wake of the his Indiana win Wednesday night.
Today’s front page:

Donald Trump is the GOP’s nominee — it’s time for Cruz and Kasich to drop out https://t.co/Xqbm31wxxv pic.twitter.com/g31IZ562cX

The Daily News declared the Republican Party dead, while the NY Post first mocked Trump with “Hoosier Daddy,” and later, a new front page cover story that simply asks, “Can you believe it?”
Today’s cover: Ted Cruz overplayed his hand – and now he’s done https://t.co/1AVcqepFWG pic.twitter.com/SxODDVrI5g

The Post’s cover story, by Jeffrey Blehar, says, “Trump will be the GOP nominee facing off against Hillary Clinton in November 2016.”
Whether you consider this a welcome development or are as horrified about it as I am, the question to ask is: Why did the Republican so-called “Establishment†fail to rally behind Ted Cruz, the last man standing between Trump and the nomination?
And here’s how the Daily News’ cover story begins:
Donald Trump ran his mouth to a first-place finish in Indiana — a critical win that cemented the hate-spewing huckster’s path to the GOP nomination and bounced his firebrand rival Ted Cruz from the race.
Days of angry accusations directed at the conservative Texan — and months of bigoted bombast directed at Latinos, Muslims, women and countless other groups of Americans — helped propel Trump’s hate wave to the pivotal Hoosier State victory and even proved to be too much for Cruz, who announced his exit just an hour after polls closed.
Ouch.
