Netflix Has Now Indefinitely Suspended Production on ‘House of Cards’ Over Allegations Against Spacey
Companies Taking Time to ‘Review the Current Situation’
Just one day ago Netflix announced that in light of the sexual abuse allegations against lead actor Kevin Spacey it would cancel its hit series “House of Cards” after the upcoming season. Just one day later, Netflix and Media Rights Capital (MRC) the command that produces the show, have indefinitely suspended production, according to reports by CNBC and The Hollywood Reporter.
“MRC and Netflix have decided to suspend production on House of Cards season six, until further notice, to give us time to review the current situation and to address any concerns of our cast and crew,†the two companies said in a joint statement Tuesday.
“Star Trek” actor Anthony Rapp told Buzzfeed in an article published late Sunday that Spacey had made sexual advances toward him when he Wass just 14. Spacey would have been 26 at the time. Spacey in a statement said he did not remember the “encounter” but apologized to Rapp. In a horrific decision, outraging many in the LGBT community, Spacey in the same statement came out as gay. Many said that announcement set the LGBT community back decades, for inappropriately conflating sexual assault with being gay.
