Nearly Every House Democrat Has Just Signed a Letter Urging Trump to Fire Bannon. Not a Single Republican Did.
‘Millions of Americans Have Expressed Fear and Concern About How They Will Be Treated by the Trump Administration’
It took less than 48 hours for 169 House Democrats to personally sign a letter urging President-elect Donald Trump to fire his newly-appointed, highly-controversial Chief White House Strategist and Senior Counselor, Steve Bannon.Â
“Millions of Americans have expressed fear and concern about how they will be treated by the Trump Administration and your appointment of Mr. Bannon only exacerbates and validates their concerns,†the letter, signed by all but 19 Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives, reads.Â
“Your appointment of Stephen Bannon, whose ties to the White Nationalist movement have been well-documented, directly undermines your ability to unite the country.â€
Not a single Republican added their name to the letter. There are 188 House Democrats and 247 House Republicans.
“As the Executive Chairman of Breitbart News, Mr. Bannon repeatedly and aggressively pushed stories that promote anti-Semitism, xenophobia, and racism. During an interview last summer, Mr. Bannon bragged that Breitbart was ‘the platform for the alt-right,’ a movement that upholds White Nationalism while strongly rejecting diversity in any form,†the letter, drafted by Democratic Rep. David Cicilline, observes.

Bannon is the publisher of Breitbart, a far right wing website that Bannon has bragged he turned into the platform for the alt-right movement, a loosely defined group that includes white nationalists, white supremacists, misogynists, homophobes, racists, and those opposed to Muslims and other minorities. Trump has come under fire since he announced Bannon’s appointment late Sunday, Â in a press release that included the announcement he was making RNC Chair his Chief ofStaff. Notably, in the press release, Bannon’s appointment was given top billing.
