Having compared abortion to the Holocaust, Mike Huckabee told a group of pastors that same-sex marriage will destroy the foundation of civilization.
Last week Mike Huckabee led a group of pastors through Europe in “Mike Huckabee’s Reagan, Thatcher, Pope John Paul II Tour.” The culmination of the tour was a visit to Auschwitz and Birkenau, prompting the conservative southern Baptist preacher and GOP politician to compare Nazi Germany to America.
"The soul of America is a sick soul... because it has forsaken and forgotten its God," Huckabee told his audience.
The former Arkansas governor and likely 2016 presidential candidate claimed the horrors of Hitler's Germany happened because the country allowed their rights to be taken away, and because they allowed God and religion to be "systematically removed from their culture and their society."
He went on to compare abortion in America to the Nazi Holocaust (which the ADL has been forced to urge him not to do), saying that "all of us are created equal, even our Constitution, our founders acknowledged that, and the Bible affirms it."
But Huckabee's equality, acknowledged by our founders and affirmed by our Bibles, does not extend to same-sex couple who wish to marry.
Immediately after his anti-choice diatribe, Huckabee went on to attack same-sex marriage.
"The foundation of our society and culture, marriage, not only by which we produce the next generation but it is the entity through which God has chosen for us to create the next generation and train them to be our replacements, and when we tinker with its definition and we decide that it can mean anything we wish for it to mean and that rather than to take a biblical perspective we will take a very human one and we will base marriage on human experience and desire as opposed to biblical standard, then I fear that we will pay the consequences for having upended the very foundation which is the essence of how a civilization survives. So the soul of America is in real trouble."
