JK Rowling Slams ‘Stupidity’ and ‘Spite’ of Christian Ministry’s Attack on Olympian Tom Daley
A Right-Wing Anti-LGBT Christian Organization Gets the Rowling Treatment
J.K. Rowling stood up to a right-wing Christian “ministry” this weekend after the U.K.-based anti-LGBT organization attacked Olympic diver Tom Daley on social media. While Daley won a bronze medal in the 2016 Summer Olympics, and finished first in the ten-meter preliminary round, he finished last in the the semi-finals, leading Christian Voice to take to Twitter with a homophobic attack.Â
“Turning gay doesn’t seem to have done Tom Daley any favours at #Rio2016,â€Â Christian Voice bullied:

Rowling, who has a long history of fending off bullies, jumped right in.
“Can’t decide which is more offensive in this tweet, the stupidity or the spite,” the Harry Potter creator tweeted.Â

Raw Story notes Rowling’s “shaming spread as quickly as her tweet did, prompting her fans to lash out at the right-wing group for their bigotry and hate.”
.@jk_rowling “turning gay” already shows @UKCV has no clue.
Anyone who takes them seriously lack any intelligence.https://t.co/GrRS6WuXdG— Vadim Dovganyuk (@SnowCalmth) August 21, 2016
@jk_rowling @UKCV how they can call themselves “loving Christians” yet be so bitter and spiteful is beyond me. Religion does not = hate.😡😡

@jk_rowling depressing, but all they really do is expose how obnoxious they are. Sometimes I despair of twitter, but then I read your tweets

@jk_rowling @UKCV I’m a (moderately conservative) evangelical minister, and I’m horrified by that tweet. What were they thinking?

Daley didn’t respond to the homophobic group’s message, or Rowling’s, but minutes ago he did post this optimistic tweet:
Flying home proud to be a part of @TeamGB . It may not have gone the way I hoped, but I’m ready for what’s next. pic.twitter.com/iPxRmZtKEj
