Duggar Family Under Fire For Posting Photo Of 16 Year Old Son With A Gun
The “19 Kids and Counting” clan are under fire again – this time for their love of guns.
What could be better than a rifle for Christmas – especially if you’re about to become 16? That’s what Jim Bob Duggar and Michelle Duggar must have asked themselves before going out and buying a rifle for Jedidiah Duggar. The “19 Kids and Counting” parents posted a photo of a very happy Jed holding the black shotgun in front of a Christmas-decorated house, complete with a sign over a doorway that reads “Christ Is Born.”
The clan posted the photo to Facebook, and that’s when the controversy began.
“Oh dear,” one person on Facebook wrote. “Only in America is it appropriate to give a kid a gun for Christmas.”

Another, who says, “I do love the show tho and wish we weren’t so far behind! (Jill and Derek still not even engaged yet! ),” adds, “I live in the uk and in all my 42 years I have NEVER even seen a gun in real life. So glad that we have a completely different approach to guns over here.”
Celebrity magazines, like InTouch, are all over the story, noting that this “isn’t the first time the conservative family has ignited a controversy with their love of weaponry. Earlier this year, Jessa, 22, was caught in a social media storm when she posed with a rifle.”
And Radar reports “many fans think the Christian fundamentalists have taken their gun love too far.”
“Worst present ever. I don’t care how much gun safety they teach their kids,†said Linda Lawless. “All it takes is one time of not locking it up properly for one of the dozens of curious young kids in that house to get a hold of it and have an accident.â€
“Don’t understand why a Christian family who values life would want to own devices that were specifically designed to destroy it.â€
The Hollywood Gossip adds that “it’s also worth noting that Jedediah has eight younger siblings living in his home, the youngest of whom is only 5 years old.”
But the pro-gun activists went all out to defend the Duggars.
“Ahah wow some people… Guns are awesome and yall need to get yoyr panties out of a knot,” wrote one.
“Umm….. really people?? My son is 6 & got a .22 & 2 air soft guns this year for Christmas,” bragged another. “Last year he got a .20 ga, a bb gun, & a pellet rifle. He’s killed 2 hogs & a deer!! There is nothing wrong with a child having a gun as long as they are taught gun safety & used with adult supervision. Guns don’t kill people. The person using the gun does!”
“My son is 3 and has been around guns his whole life,” exclaimed another.
The Duggars have recently been embroiled in anti-LGBT politics, to the chagrin of their detractors. Michelle Duggar and anti-gay activist son Josh Duggar were partly responsible for Fayetteville, Arkansas residents repealing a non-discrimination ordinance. And recently the Duggars were attacked for removing photos of same-sex couples kissing from their Facebook page, after asking couples to post photos.
