GOP Frontrunner Slams Former President George W. Bush For Not Keeping America Safe, Despite Conservatives' Claims
Starting on Saturday at the GOP debate, Donald Trump said that President George W. Bush did not keep America safe. The GOP frontrunner noted correctly that the Twin Towers were attacked and came down during Bush's watch on 9/11.
“I’m sick and tired of Barack Obama blaming my brother for all of the problems that he’s had,” Jeb Bush said during Saturday's debate. “I’m sick and tired of him going after my family. My dad is the greatest man alive in my mind. While Donald Trump was building a reality TV show, my brother was building a security apparatus to keep us safe. And I’m proud of what he did.”
Trump jumped in, creating the most contentious debate of the season.
“The World Trade Center came down during your brother’s reign. Remember that,” Trump continued, “that’s not keeping us safe.”
“I just want to say, at least on behalf of me and my family, I thank god all the time it was George W. Bush in the White House on 9/11, and not Al Gore,” Marco Rubio interjected.
“How did he keep us safe when the World Trade Center came down during the reign of George Bush. He kept us safe? That is not safe,” Trump said. “That is not safe, Marco. That is not safe.”
“George Bush made a mistake. We can make mistakes,” Trump said. “But that one was a beauty. We should have never been in Iraq. We have destabilized the Middle East,” Trump said.
“You call it whatever you want. I will tell you. They lied. They said there were weapons of mass destruction and there were none. And they knew there were none. There were no weapons of mass destruction,” Trump correctly said.
Trump did not stop there.
On Monday he doubled down.
Trump today said, "the World Trade Center came down during the reign of George Bush."
"That was the worst attack in the history of the United States – worse than Pearl Harbor because it was individuals, we were attacked as individuals, as opposed to the military."
Here's how Jeb Bush responded today to Trump's truthful statements, that Bush did not keep America safe, that 9/11 was on his watch:
.@realDonaldTrump is trafficking 9/11 conspiracy theories. I’m offering detailed plans to defeat ISIS. We need a serious Commander-in-Chief.— Jeb Bush (@JebBush) February 15, 2016
