  • Breaking: 'Harm Is Imminent' – Texas Goes To State Supreme Court To Void Lesbians' Marriage

The Texas Attorney General has just filed a petition with the State Supreme Court to void a same-sex couple's marriage.

Ken Paxton, the newly elected Republican Attorney General for the State of Texas, has just filed a motion with the State Supreme Court to officially declare a same-sex marriage performed at the direction of a county judge null and void. Suzanne Bryant and Sarah Goodfriend married in front of the Travis County courthouse Thursday morning, after one county judge struck down the Texas same-sex marriage ban, and after another county judge ordered a county clerk to issue the license.

Goodfriend is battling ovarian cancer, leading the judge to grant the order.

No sooner had the couple, together over 30 years, been legally married, than AG Paxton announced the marriage was "void." Later, he announced he was "seeking to void the marriage license issued due to the erroneous judicial order."

    That action came Friday afternoon.

"As a result of the trial court's ruling, at least one same-sex couple has been issued an invalid marriage license, but there may have been more. Moreover, the state of the law in Texas has been needlessly cast into doubt," Paxton wrote in his petition.

The petition also claims that "harm is imminent," and urges the Court to act immediately. "These problems are real, not theoretical," the petition claims.

Paxton also claims that "Alabama, too, is experiencing similar confusion."

Pray tell, for I am insatiably curious, what harm? How precisely would this harm you? I could see the potential harm to the lesbian couple dealing with undue difficulty with health decisions because of your homophobia, but how exactly are these two old women going to harm the state of Texas you jacka$$?

Just to the person saying this is Texans… No it is not Texans. It is the leadership that the conservative part of texas got into power. Those of us who live in Texas that are not Tea party, GOP, or bigots are working to try to stop this kind of horrible stuff. So no not Texans, but rather Texas GOP/rightwing.

There is the sweet smell of Heighteneid Scutinacea flower in the air, making me think very fondly of the swiftly coming Springtime.

Antigays know their agenda is on life support. This and the recent fad for “No Gays Allowed” “laws” are the manifestation of a death throe. Spasm and fit that will nevertheless have no effect on the finale.

The SCOTUS will be getting so many reasons to see why LGBTs are a group in need of heightened security, a denouement that will -in an instant – identify all creators of such “laws” as civil criminals.

That will be the last we hear of this antigay “law”-making tradition; one that was started in the 1990s to get certain Republicans in close races votes they would not have otherwise garnered. A sick cynical ploy that should and will disgust the true American.

Patriots will soon see the treason here and America will be more American for it.

      History will bear this out.

JON SMITH What is your problem with Berkeley? That was a strange thing to say. I’ve lived in Berkeley and it’s one of the best places in the country to live.

What happened today with the attorney general just goes to show you how hate filled Texans are. They’re a bunch of inbred, bigoted, bible beating thugs who wield there Bibles like baseball bats! Tapioca pudding has more compassion and intelligence than most Texans!

They spent taxpayer dollars going after two women one of which has ovarian cancer! What will Texans do next dump gas on the kitty and set it on fire? Walk down the street kicking puppies? Pull the wings off flies?

In no way I’m glad Texas did this! I live just east of Dallas and I’m totally embarrassed by what the status done! Hopefully America is watching because it’s almost a cinch of our elected officials will become president! All this Texas talk about “succeeding from the union” please do!! Go back to Mexico! And while you’re at it take Berkeley California with you! Texas is the other extreme from Berkeley! They do not represent American values or American tolerance!

Texas is run by the Southern Baptist, white, rich, religious special-interest groups—it’s a monarchy Texas style!

It looks like Texas will have to prove what no other defendant has been able to prove, that harm is done to marriage.

It does appear that these are the last dying gasps of conservatives as they hold on to their bigotry, just as the racists held onto their beliefs in the wake of the Loving decision.

Shame, Shame, Shame, what is the mentality of these elected officials of the GOP, get the hell out of our lives and start solving more imminent problems like lack of jobs, lower taxes on the poor & middle class and raise taxes on the uber rich. Get the F**k out of our bedrooms.
